Members Medical & Professional Liability Insurance Scheme

The British and Irish Orthoptic Society (BIOS) provide Medical and Professional Liability insurance as part of Membership benefits. The cover applies to all Members resident in the United Kingdom or Ireland, regardless of their employment status. The cover operates anywhere in the World except the U.S.A., Canada and Australia for all activities within the Society’s Scope of Practice, provided Members have been appropriately trained and are competent in their chosen speciality. Members must retain BIOS membership and H.P.C. registration at the time of any treatment or advice. No treatments are covered prior to the 1st January, 1980 regardless of the date of claim.

The standard level of cover is currently £2,500,000 in respect of any one claim and £5,000,000 in aggregate in any period of insurance in respect of claims from all Members or Special Interest Groups.
